You have the plans and the builder in place to create your new house extension, but in what order is everything going to happen?  There are always exceptions to the rules; however, in general, majority of house extension building projects follow a similar process:

1. Site Establishment
• Secure access to your home and the site
• Protect habitable spaces to minimise disruption to your home
• Put in place skips, toilet facilities, scaffolding and access equipment
• Health and safety briefing and risk assessment for all site operatives

2. Demolition/Groundworks/Drainage
• Make safe all amenities to your home
• Excavate and prepare groundwork and footings for your build
• Install gullies and soakaway to manage surface water at the property

3. Build structure/Roofing/External Finishes
• Erect your building's walls and roof
• Survey/measure/fit windows and bi-fold door systems where applicable (lead time for manufacturing is generally 4-6 weeks)
• Fitting all downpipes and connection to drainage system

4. Internal Renovation and Remodelling
• Removal of all redundant internal fixtures and fittings
• Reconfiguration of internal space, incorporating removal and erection of walls where required
• Set up temporary wash and cooking amenities should your kitchen be compromised

5. Services, Internal Fitout and Finishes
• Installation of electrical and plumbing facilities to your build
• Fitting of carpentry, flooring, kitchen and appliance
• Decoration throughout
• Clear all site equipment and preliminaries
• Final clean and hand-over

A return visit scheduled approximately 3 months post the end of the building project is put in place to manage any snagging issues.  Now your build team have completed your home extension, sit back, relax, your home is yours to enjoy!
