You want to understand Upright's build ethos and find out more information on completed builds?  Have you a query about your build schedule or payment structure?  You require contact details for one of Upright's trusted suppliers?

Becky, the Upright Office Manager is our in-house team member available to support you throughout your build from the initial enquiry and beyond.  Here Becky takes us through an outline of her role:

What is the main type of enquiry you deal with?
I tend to be the first point of contact at our office. Taking the first call to a prospective client is a large part of my role, whether they're looking to undertake a home extension, renovation, loft conversion or new build project I'm on hand to take down all the information we require and answer any initial queries they may have.

Speaking to our clients is also a large part of my role.  Although I'm not on the build sites, I get to know our clients well as I am the contact for any general queries about their build, payment enquiries or putting them in touch with Matthew Charlton and Ben Wilson, our company Directors.

Suppliers will often call into the office, mostly to inform us of a delivery so I get to know what's happening at each building site.  At Upright we operate using a trusted supplier list, meaning we've worked with and have a close relationship with all of our suppliers.  This means that we can recommend and provide contact details for suppliers to our clients in the knowledge that they will be happy with the product and service they receive.

Do many clients visit the office?
Absolutely, many clients find the office a great place to come and discuss their build project.  It can be a bit of an upheaval to have a building project happening at home so having somewhere they can sit and have a coffee and a catch up works well.  Additionally, many clients have commented on how having an office location provided them with the added security knowing Upright has a base, not just a mobile phone number.

What advice can you offer someone looking to undertake a building project?
Speak to the company and if possible visit them.  Ask for:

  • Evidence of previous build projects, some builders have a specific type of build that they undertake so you need to make sure your builder is going to be suited to the build you're after.
  • Gain details of past clients that you can contact to see how the build went for them.
  • If you've got an architect on board and plans are in place then a builder should be happy to come and visit your property and if applicable provide you with a detailed quotation.  If you're still at the very initial stage of deciding whether a building project is right for you, your builder may suggest you have a feasibility report which will provide you with an outline of the possibility and cost for your required build project.

Apart from build projects is there anything else your role gets you involved with?
Upright is dedicated to supporting the local community and we've had a number of fundraising stands at local events with all proceeds going to a chosen charity, so I've been responsible for the bookings, logistics and taking part.

What would be your dream build?
A period property in a very rural location where I can completely renovate and extend it, something similar to the character cottage project in Reigate that Upright renovated and extended.  For more information on this case click here.
